If you’re looking for a summer adventure that’s a little out of the ordinary, head for the hills for a Take a Llama to Lunch hike.

Paragon Guides offers two llama hikes that are suitable for families with young children, as well as those looking for a big adventure.

The Arrowhead Llama Lunch, available from July 1 through early October, is a half-day easy to moderate hike, depending on your ability. It includes a picnic lunch, snacks and water.  You’ll meet the llamas at Paragon’s backcountry center at the Arrowhead Ski Area where you’ll get an interactive introduction to the unique pack animals before taking off.

The base fee is $298 for one or two people and an additional $89 per person. Children younger than 12 are half price after the base fee, and kids age 3 and younger are free.

There’s also the Backcountry Llama Lunch available from mid June through late October. It’s a full-day hike, with your guide picking you up from your home or hotel and taking you to the trailhead for a moderate to difficult hike in the Vail Valley.  The trip includes a picnic, snacks and water.

The base fee is $675 for up to four people and an additional $89 per person. Children younger than 12 are half price after the base fee and kids ages 3 and younger are free.

Both trips provide packs and rain gear if needed.
