The Larimer Arts Association is taking its popular Chalk Art Festival to Centennial September 19-20.
The Centennial Chalk Art Festival will be held from 10 am to 8 pm on Saturday and 9 am to 6 pm on Sunday at Centennial Center Park, 13050 E. Peakview Ave., three miles east of Interstate 25 off Arapahoe Road.
The event, which showcases the Italian art of street painting that dates to the 1600s, will feature more than 150 professional, amateur and student artists who will spend hours on their hands and knees recreating works of art using vivid pastel chalks. Spectators will watch the intricate chalk paintings come to life, while enjoying live music, food and beverages.
The Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design is sponsoring the Youth Challenge, in which some of the most talented groups of art students from across metro Denver will compete on behalf of their high schools for cash prizes to help schools purchase art supplies.
IKEA Centennial is presenting the Capture the Color photo contest, giving festival attendees the opportunity to win two round-trip tickets on Southwest Airlines. Photos should be uploaded to the Denver Chalk Art Festival Facebook page by October 2. Entries will be displayed by IKEA Centennial’s Restaurant kiosk for voting.
